They just look so cool....

Soundwise they seem to do everything well, certainly for a closed phone and for that price.

I have tried them on more than one occasion, probably the only (reasonably priced) closed ones i could live with.
Up till now if i need to be quiet ( no sound leaking) or i need a sounds to stop getting in (other half watching tv or kids playing etc) i use iems but as time goes I seems to prefer over the ear so 99's are first on the list

I'm running them with an MF X-CanV3 which has (I think) valves in the output stage. The combination has a bit of smoothness plus a bit of sparkle. They work well together.

I've been hearing good reports on the Oppo PM3 as well - especially the midrange.

Beyerdynamic T90: Open HPs, very detailed, natural, lively and comfortable. Nice clear and deep bass without boom-boom.If you look at ebay they're about 200 Euros in good used condition. Sound wonderful with the NVA amp!

Fretless wrote: Mon May 14, 2018 2:11 pm The accuracy of Grado makes them a good choice for picking fine detail out of a mix. I mainly use my SR225e's for Netflix watching (laptop +AQ Dragonfly), for soundtracks and effects.

I seem to have acquired several different headphones which I use for specific purposes according to mood:

AKG K601 - superbly comfortable, great for long sessions whilst working on PC. SQ is very laid-back.
Meze 99 Classics - wonderful walnut-cup closed phones. Sanity savers when other half is watching soaps or reality shows.
AQ Nighthawks - for those moments when you want to relax with heavenly sounds.
B&W P7 - for being out and about with serious SQ.
Hi the B&W P7 are they passive or the Bluetooth version as I tried the passive corded version with a Phone and they sounded the best in the shop, the new PX look interesting but no shop has them connected properly or charged up.

My P7 has old-fashioned cables. Haven't heard the Bluetooth version.

Works very well with an AQ Dragonfly running from my Huawei Android phone. Or via an ancient Sanusi amp.

Afterthought.

I believe that the P7 has been taken out of production. So if you come across one you'd better grab it while you can.

I think I would need a headphone amp as the Samsung S4 sounds pretty weedy with P7 in the shop.
