Would your local dealer lend you a couple of dacs for our bake off?Hemmo1969 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 12:23 pmAgreed, there’s a difference between a ‘box shifter’ and a good HIFI dealer.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 11:39 am Richer sounds is not a dealership. It is a no thrills seller.
Loan of products is a must and is offered by my local dealer.... listening at home with your own kit is a huge bonus. Getting to know your dealer can also pay dividends as they will allow ‘home loans’ without the hassle of purchasing first in my experience.
Doc has all the above with the bonus of direct selling prices and forum advice! Winner

The DACs he has in stock are (I’m guessing) what he will consider the best at a particular price point for his customers to choose from. Can’t imagine he’d have any interest in a bunch of old farts sat about drinking tea deciding which one they think sounds better....
He’s not a designer showing his own wares off, can only imagine it would be a hinder if an actual customer wanted to have a real demo.

In other words he is a waste of time for us to have anything to do with him, he is only interested in himself and his slurp - EXACTLY!!!

Your subsequent post suggests they think you're a senile and flatulent time waster...
...so, which is it??

...tell your dealer that NVA don't make DACs.
That should ease their anxiety...

Well I am still thinking about boxing my Chinese bargain with mods for £100, as I now have a Boy Friday I may find time to do it. But don't hold your breath.
The other thing I am investigating putting back into production (no promises) is the Cubettes.

Re: Dealers - recent experience
My last 4 visits to hi-fi dealers (outside of MCRU's bake-offs) have been filled with pathos. They were nice enough chaps, but they really had no comprehension what my systems were about. I suppose that's what happens when you explore the outer fringes of the hi-fi galaxy. You're like an alien from Betelgeuse when you walk through the door.
Like the Not The Nine O'clock News sketch in reverse, where it's the customer saying things that the dealer doesn't understand.
EG "I'd like an amp with about 3 watts"
Or trying to explain why I wasn't interested in an 6" subwoofer for my A/V system.
