Fear more for your main bearing - they do wear out on LP12's eventually. Ten years at 500 hours a year (around a couple of hours a night which is what many Linnies did with their record playing thang) is what, 5,000 hours. Definite if not terminal wear at his time I remember. I doubt modern ones are used so extensively unless the owner is in denial about how good digital is these days.

Nearly thirty years old now, last time I looked (about a year ago) the bearing was fine - must have been a rogue one

I know this will go down as well a a bucket of cold sick, but my deck has worked out as a bargain (mind you current buyers would need to own theres for a few hundred years to get equivalent value for money).

I used to be quite good at setting these things up and had many from near and far afield for my attention. Bearing spindles were checked and the condition of the thrust plate checked. Some were very good, others from a mid 80's batch would go off in the first few hours and the rest would be somewhere in between - the spindle tip should offer just a little polished running mark at its tip, the bad ones had a black 'scar' instead, almost like burning... At least the Cirkus kit was a good thing as the inner hub and bearing housing/thrust plate was replaced as well as the sub chassis and important screws, arm board, springs, grommets, belt etc. and many decks needed these replacements. I swear I'm not talking crap here, but from personal experience! The black oil slowed it all down but if it was going to happen, it bloody did in the end.

Dont get me going with things like 'Specialist' Feet/cones, never mind the piss taking prices of them. They are just one of those things that Audio dudes feel compelled to do within their little Hi-Fi regime

From Walker audio:

“I have had great success demagnetizing my speakers with your Talisman. Passing that “magic wand” over my speakers has breathed new life into my system. Keep up the admirable work. I only wish I could convince my friends …that your tweaks do, indeed, WORK.” RAM, customer
