Does not surprise me. I bought a phone from them once. new. It turned out to be a piece of crap and EBay did not want to know. I learned my lesson.

Just received this reply from emporium hi fi in response to my suggestion they should not sell them as they no longer meet class 2 and are dangerous. I will ask them to prove their statement given they said "No" earlier.

Absolutely not, they now have better insulation than they did when they were new

They are wrong, one layer of insulation has been removed at one spot internally. That is enough to be denied CE on class II regs. Dangerous, well highly unlikely, just ignorant people interfering in things they don't understand. Perhaps you should link him to this thread.

I recon if put back to correct standard and the case sorted (as long as they haven't superglued it) I could get £300 for them, but it is a full rebuild - new PCBs, so I would only give £100 to get it off his hands.

I nearly put an offer in for an amp they were selling only to find out from someone who knew the amp to avoid it like the plague as it didn't sound like it was supposed to due to someone fiddling with it 😉

The 'Bay is a place to look out for sharks and "Shark Warnings" are always welcome to us wary swimmers. When I look at speakers I always investigate the pics in detail and I'm amazed at how many "working perfectly" pairs have pushed in tweeter domes or disintegating surrounds.
You would think any scrupulous dealer would bin an item with a botched up repair. I'll certainly keep their name on my mental list of places to be wary of.

The phrase that always sends me running for the hills is "...doesn't affect the sound quality." That's usually applied to cones and domes as well.

There are great bargains out there. But ''giant killer'' is a daft exaggeration, imo.
