Tilted speaker stands

Unread post by karatestu »

Already thinking about stands for my doc modded Marantz imperial 7. They are 65mm tall but are still going to need stands 20 - 25cm tall to get tweeter up to ear level. I thought why not make some stands which tilt the speakers back so they don't have to be so tall

It is to get the tweeters firing at your ears when sat on the sofa. Also it may help with time alignment of the drivers ?

Is this idea no no ?

IMO not a good idea, you will have a lot of weight to be leaning back, you also take away some of the ground path (energy) because of the angle. Remember IMO. I have had experience of tilted big Goodmans many years ago I didn't like it.

All you need is some bricks or stone or concrete blocks. Stands need mass the same as speakers do.

I find it odd listening to speakers that are lower than me - even if they are pointed upwards. It sounds as if I'm listening to dwarf musicians.

I once had a pair of two-way speakers where the tweeter was about 6 inches from the centre line of the cabinet, and I found that tilting them outwards about 15 degrees until the two drivers were in a vertical line improved the imaging an amazing amount.

None of that is true.
I think I might be in the HiFi trade.
I am not currently seeking treatment for this.
