High Frequency Hearing Loss

To some of the members here, who have some high frequency hearing loss. Does this hearing flaw sometimes stop you, from enjoying listening to music through your system?

Can some of you guys still remember those ''Hi-Fi'' ear extenders, from way back in the 80's/90's It's supposed to give the listener that ''hands behind the ear'' effect and improve the sound coming to your ears etc.

There was a guy in the 70's and 80's who went to hi-fi shows with a hearing aid, he was quite capable of hearing "musical differences" between bits of gear, and proved it. There is fidelity and there is music, you can have music without fidelity but IMO you cannot have fidelity without music.

So much of the bling overpriced crap sold today is just fidelity.

An online friend of mine in Alabama had significant hearing loss due to his time in the Army. He always thought that his time had past for high quality audio playback because of his limitations. A couple of years ago he went in and got fitted with the current technology digital hearing aids. He was quite amazed at how well they worked, and what he was capable of discerning. He has limited financial resources, but decided to venture out and buy a used VPI 19 MK III with Eminent Technology II tone arm, and then spent the last of his discretionary income on an Audio Technica OC 9 II from a dealer who had them for $259. He was so tickled with his purchase, and really enjoyed what he was hearing. He has gone and upgraded his electronics where possible, built pieces as he is quite technically adept, and is just having a ton of fun listening to music. With his digital hearing aids.

I'm told and with personal experience now, that the harsh-toned systems I favoured, once 'exciting' and 'rhythmic' in my youth, now give me pain today as my ears are shot to pieces and vary from day to day.
