room acoustics and treatment
well its a sunday and after doing the housework i thought id have a play with strategically placed pillows and sheets, quite interesting results,i found that by placing pillows in the corners behind speakers and removing the large mirror i have up on the back wall and hanging a sheet up had a noticeable effect on the bass notes, they became clearer and i hear the bass guitar more,it sounded rather natural.
my room has got an echo right in the corners above the speakers too so i think i need to sort this.
so this has got me interested in room acoustics and bass traps etc,has anyone else had a play or has done it properly with foam etc?
id be interested to hear what you've done and the improvements it made.

Re: room acoustics and treatment
Get speakers that use / work with the room instead of speakers that fight the room.
The room is your friend if you let it be, look for problems and it will give it too you.
Roy Allison: Learning and then teaching how rooms affect loudspeaker performance and how to use that information to design much better loudspeaker systems. Only a few designers have taken advantage of these simple rules. Of course, the appropriate comment to make here is: ‘There are none so blind as those who will not see.’

Your system says you have KLH 23 speakers as well, they will not have the same problems with your room.

Try out a pair of Cubes via the loan service.
Speakers that work 'with' the room acoustic.

i do yes,i like them a lot, they just lack the high end of the 66's,excuse my ignorance but why will they work in my room where as the dittons wont?Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:Your system says you have KLH 23 speakers as well, they will not have the same problems with your room.

Re: room acoustics and treatment
Because KLH came from the Acoustic Research school of loudspeaker design where room interface were studied and incorporated in the designs, which led to Ray Allisons work. Celestion didn't, they came from the school of ignoring that a speaker has to be used in an achoic acoustic and designed them with Anechoic Chambers to get flat frequency response curves on bits of paper just for bullshit marketing sake, and they leave you to try and fit them into your room.

Re: room acoustics and treatment
Doesn't the KLH 23 have a high frequency adjustment switch on the back ?

Re: room acoustics and treatment
Ditton 66's do have lots of bass which isn't as tightly controlled as it might be and they MUST NOT be used in corners - in my opinion. I liked them sited along a 'long' wall and maybe a fair distance out and not firing down a rectangular room. I liked them a lot and it's one model I'd have liked to spend some time with.
