Pioneer CD player

Anyone familiar with mid-level Pioneer CD players?
I'm thinking in particular of the PD30 CD/SACD player. Not for its SACD facility, but more as I've always thought Pioneer one of the more 'musical' Japanese brands. Any thoughts?

The stable platter range used to get some fine reviews......
My mate uses one and it sounds sweet, very nice.

Never had a Pioneer player, but as an SACD unit it's very affordable.

If you are serious about a 'musical' standalone CD player in the near future then you should consider joining the queue for Doc's proposed NVA player project.

If, like me, all you want is a CD transport running to an outboard DAC, take a careful look at the Cambridge CXC.
