Record player phono cable extension

Unread post by Rick »

Thinking of having a bit of a switch round. Trying to get the HiFi in the larger carpeted front room rather than in the dining room where it doesn't get much use.
I've been told the speakers are not suitable as they are too big and it looks too busy :naughty:
It looks like I need to replace the speakers anyway due to a driver issue but she wants something slightly more aesthetic. She also wants the record player on the other side of the room. She starting insisting on the amps there too but I don't think she appreciated LS5 doesn't hide under carpet that easily.

I'm almost there, just wanted to check if there was any problem extending the output cables from the record player. I'd guess I'd need a total length of about 7m.
It's a Rega Planar 2 and has the phono wired in.

Would something like this be any good or would I be better rewiring a new cable in place?

Thanks

You are going to have to rethink, 7m from the turntable to amp is way too much. There wont be much signal left to amplify after a 7m run.

I would spend time hooking up a 7m to proove that as well, but Perms knows he is wasting his time doing so

You could do it with a crystal or ceramic cartridge. A moving magnet would severely change the frequency response and add hum. A MC and you would just get hum modulate by a little music.

Andre, you do not understand electronics yet you pronounce like an expert.
