My listening room is on the first floor, so suspended floor. Have read that granite or slate under the stands improves the sound. Is that nonsense?Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:My only question is why do it. Seems a lot of faff and expense.

Your systems looking really good and even though the Doc doesn't like racks I think the two you have linked to would be perfect, especially getting your laptop off the floor. Don't know about the slate or granite under your speakers but look forward to your findings.

Re: Cube Speaker Stands?
I have a solid floor, but stand my Ela's on stone plinths. I tried both plinth direct on the carpet and with spikes in the plinth (drilled holes in the plinth then used araldite to secure the spikes) to pierce the carpet.
In my situation spikes work better - tidies up the bass. Interestingly, at least in my view, without spikes I could feel the cabinet getting very excited in time with the bass. With spikes there is far less cabinet vibration - route for vibrations to "sink" to?
In your situation, spikes through the carpet may carry vibrations to floor and lead to complaints from below?
Have fun experimenting.

If stone plinths cost too much, do what Jimmy Hughes did - worked for him... Get a couple of cheap paving slabs (for the mass) and top them with tiles or similar so they don't look too bad.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

local stonemason led me to his skip, I chose a piece (not sure which stone it is) and he cut it in to two pieces for me - £5

Re: Cube Speaker Stands?
Hey I've got 22 granite tiles 18inch long and 4 wide do you think if I cut then in to bits and put them on eBay under HiFi I'll make at least 20 quid a bit
Orcs ultrasonic granite squares heated and tempered by human farts then qenched in yack milk to get the best results for you
Only 20 quid a square inch
I think I'm onto something here now wres the cutter and were the beans
