Thank you Mr Spock

Unread post by Progmeister »

Just wanted to give a big up for the Doc. I flew into a pan shite on my return home this evening when i powered up the hifi and sat with PG tips and hob nobs in hand ready to chill with some Crusaders on the tt. Guess what? it was only coming out of the left channel. Flippin eck i said, dash the bloomin thing! I spent the evening trying to get to the bottom of it all before frustration got the better of me and i contacted the Doc. After reminding me of just how crap i am at diagnosing faults he set about applying Spock like logic talking me through the possibilities. Listening to his instructions i had it sorted within five minutes. A massive thank you to him' Now all he has to do is sort my American turntable out and Spock's knighthood will be in the post.

Cheers Doc.

Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

How on earth does an interconnect become dodgy? Did you knock it up yourself,
forget to solder it? Did an earth tremor work it loose?
C'mon spill.

My PM to Proggy, which I would hope would be redundant knowledge to lots of you, but worth posting it here for all to read.

LOGIC

Swap input leads to Phono2 - does fault swop channel - if it does then it is the TT that is at fault - if fault doesn't swop channel then swop output leads from Phono2 - does the fault switch channel - if it does then Phono2 is faulty - if it doesn't then swop leads from pre to power - does the fault switch channel - if it does then the pre-amp is faulty - if it doesn't then swop speaker leads over - does the fault switch channel - if it does then power amp is faulty - if it doesn't then you have either duff speaker lead or duff speaker.
