Technics 1210 a bargain or a burden?

Unread post by Progmeister »

Having some earth problems with my 1210 since i installed a different tone-arm and in my frustration started to wonder if it was indeed worth the sheckles i am throwing at it? I was also wondering what the general consensus is regarding the virtues of said 1210? Bargain or burden? Are there better TT's out there for the same money? :?:

Worth checking this if you don't mind...

The arm should be earthed to the deck itself and I think you'd find the original arm was. Might be worth having a look.

What arm have you changed to? If you still have the original arm, get it to Audio origami for a foam-fill and new exit wires. It should transform into something rather good then as long as you don't use wacky cartridges in it.

If I was in the market I would buy this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-PL-70 ... 210143b5a8

Dave the only thing worth doing with a Rega arm (apart from the R200) is selling it at ebay. You could do a hell of a lot worse that buy a R200 to replace it. We had this same conversation on a thread a couple of weeks ago.

I explained *technically* why the Rega arm is crap and I stick by it.

That PL707 is better I have heard one, ignore that it has auto return it doesn't effect the performance.

I never mentioned the RB arms. is that what the OP uses? Not a recommendation for the techie from me. The R200 is too deep for slimline plinths I think, but mine has a Cardas mini-DIN fitted underneath and this adds to the depth once a suitable 90 degree socket is inserted. If a Rega arm is to be used, a wooden armboard would be better I think.
