A pic for Fretless (and anyone else who might be interested)

Unread post by slinger »

Fretless asked for pics of my tinkering with the new bass (a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS (short scale) so here they are.

Seymour Duncan SJB-2B pickup
Custom neck plate
New Switchcraft jack
Vintage style machine heads
Various other gold bits 'n' bobs

I am exceedingly pleased with the results. The original bridge pickup was very weak, and the matched Duncans make a huge difference, as does the heavyweight bridge. I can get pretty much any tone I want out of her now, and of course she looks much prettier in gold.

I bought her a new amp too.

Nice

Here is the designed PCB I did for the Hybrid bass amp a few month ago trying to earn pennies, much more complex than I first thought to keep noise down and the tonal balance right I used a LDR in the compressor. It become twin 1KW amp using class D in the power stage all linear PSU's .

It can be done so imagine it.

Slinger, sorry but I cant help notice yer speaker amps Vol Control only goes to 10.

Wouldn't it be better if you saved up for one that went right the way to 11.

Ah, so only 100 times more powerful than mine then. I'm seriously in awe of people like you (and the doc of course) who can design like that. I've had to read plenty of circuit diagrams in my time but creating circuits is way out of my league.

Here you go chaps, 2 of my weapons of mass distraction and a proper stack...

There's also a sunburst p bass modded to match the jazzer which was added later.

Sorry, should have put in a serious reply - was busy with Cubes.

That looks to be a mighty tasty piece of work, Slinger. You have put a lot of loving care and attention in to this and it shows. The new Gotoh bridge is a seriously solid-looking thing and I expect the new pickups should do the job nicely.

Was at a pub gig a while ago and the bass player had a tiny little thing that looked like a standard guitar, turned out to be on of those Jaguar short-scales. They are really easy to play, especially in a gig situation , the small neck means you can do really fast runs and the sound is surprisingly 'fat' for something so diminutive.

But, hey - yours looks gorgeous. Good Bass guitars are sculptures, real works of art (yours too, Brit!). Cheers. :guiness;
