Durio Sound DAC

Unread post by selby »

Been looking at DACs again and while looking at HiFiBerry I came across Durio Sound and in particular their Dual Mono version:

Anyone got one?

Any idea what the very best possible power supply would be? I'm thinking a more substantial power supply like the Doc builds 'must' be better than a cheapo 5v power supplies.
My Kit – I moved to home theatre setup sorry...Denon SR7011, Anthony Gallo A'Diva SE Fronts, SpeakerCraft Profile AIM LCR3 One Rears, BK Electronics XLS200-DF MK2 Sub, Epson Projection.

But I would love a cheeky little AP10, AP20 sort of amp for a bedroom setup...

Walterwhite has a Durio and seems to be very happy with it. It provides extremely high quality analogue output. But if you are using an external DAC (like a Hegel) then a Pi & Hifiberry Digi+ would be a good alternative.

Power supplies - At the moment I have a 5V/3A powerbank running the Pi, sounds great and one charge gives about 40 hours playing time. No worries about mains noise or fuzzy wall-warts.

Found a web posting from someone who has Tidal running via Volumio (Pi controller) using Bubble UPNP. And the next version of Volumio should support streaming services.

Do you know anyone using the Lyrebird?

Looks like a step up. As for a Hegal its on my list but is going to take me a while to save for.

A cheap n cheerful idea would be to get a Pi with Hifiberry DAC to play with. Later you can upgrade to a Durio or go for a Digital output and external DAC. Believe me it's fun.

I need to investigate the Tidal integration as that's critical.

Somebody on here (despearce - see 'Life of Pi' thread) recommended Max2Play as a Pi OS - that is associated to the Squeezebox/Squeezelite system and LMS (Logitech Media Server) and can certainly access services like Tidal.

Volumio can only run Spotify directly but Volumio 2 (due later this year) will have an open platform for Streaming services.
