'Big Black Buggers'

Unread post by talisman2 »

for the last couple of my music 'sessions' i have been using either a Quad 520f or Sony 55ES power amps , but tonight i am going back to the 'bottles' and have put the Beard P100 Monoblocks into service . first on the turntable is Diana Krall 'masterpiece "Love Scenes' (now costs around £40 but worth every penny) , and i have got to say the 'Big Black Buggers' are sounding wonderful !!!

I think it was the Beard preamp that he ruined a few months after launch. The power amps were always very nice as I remember, especially the later gold cased ones.

The 520F may need a recap by now. It's a very good amp indeed, but many Quad amps seem to cause their supply caps to leak for whatever reason.

Sounds like smashing kit but Diana Krall is yawn.

The aural equivalent of tofu or polenta, like music which has all the constituent parts well done but all the soul sucked out of it.

It never ceases to amaze me how popular she is with audiophiles.

Try some Melody Gardot - I recently discovered her via a tip from Terry.

Seconded for Melody Gardot.
Only one problem I have with her fab album, "My One and Only Thrill".
Her opening phrase in the song "Les Etoiles" sounds like "Lazy Twat" and I can no longer listen to that track without hearing those words instead of the correct ones.

Apart from that, she is a great writer, performer and aa you say the sound is great.
