OK happy so far now next step - build a USB lead for it. So just for digital audio and power supply for this little box what pins do I connect. The lead needs one of the big thin USB plugs on computer end and the squarer one on t'other.

I found this website, anything I need to know from you digi buffs http://pinouts.ru/Slots/usb_pinout.shtml

Doc, here is the wikipedia article on USB, there is a bit about 'standard connectors' quite a way down, maybe that is what you need.
Sorry, can't be more help - electronics numpty.

Yes seen it, I think that Russian page is more useful. Plugs ordered, now a decision. I have a 3m run from computer to DAC and I will have the little converter sitting somewhere in that line. Should the USB lead be the short one or the SPDIF lead, or equal lengths. My view is *probably* that the USB lead should be the short one as it is carry the voltage (power supply) feed for the converter thing-a-me-bob.

USB standard specs are for cable runs of up to 5m. You ought to be fine with 3m. I'm sure you are using cable of a far higher quality than the average computer lead.

It will be built from scratch using the cores I use in TSCS (LS7) and the Faraday cage type screening I use on that and the TIS. I think I will make it the long one as the longer the more it will show me differences with the standard cable. If its good enough I will sell them.

Well haven't made the digi lead yet as I haven't found time but still astounded at how good this little thing is. Someone buy one and tell me I am not going nuts. £19.90 and free delivery and even a good(ish I think) lead with it. I might just have to built a linear PSU for it

You should build a good linear power supply for the Raspberry Pi and HiFiBerry combo. Seen a few people building them but a kit or product in a case would go down a treat. I know, I know you already have too many products. :-?

Cable I'd like is a 3.5mm to RCA, similar to the Supra BiLine cable. Could you make me a really decent version?
My Kit – I moved to home theatre setup sorry...Denon SR7011, Anthony Gallo A'Diva SE Fronts, SpeakerCraft Profile AIM LCR3 One Rears, BK Electronics XLS200-DF MK2 Sub, Epson Projection.

But I would love a cheeky little AP10, AP20 sort of amp for a bedroom setup...

Not interested I already have a computer, a 3 year old cheap Toshiba, and that sounds fine. I also have the best DAC that has ever been made IME, so all I need are the bits in between.

All the nerds and boffs are playing with cooking raspberry pies, why should I join in. I will reserve end judgement for fitting my lead and maybe powering this chip (as basically that is all it is) but what I am hearing makes every other streaming option redundant for me at the mo. £20 FFS.

Good news, Doc. Glad you're happy with the gizmo.

Isn't a linear PSU a bit of overkill here ?
