Sounds like too much bloody hard work to me
Ancient Dell 'Inspiron/latitude 500 era' laptop on the wireless network and able to access the workroom PC with all the music on it. Use Foobar for playback (easy, free and works straight off with FLAcs and only needing the playback levelling to be turned off) and take the output via USB to an external DAC either directly or via a USB/SPDIF converter. Why have more?

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Well it's part of the hifi hobby, comparable to tweaking TT's. Pi's give you the satisfaction of assembling something and being able to modify/improve the SQ._D_S_J_R_ wrote:Sounds like too much bloody hard work to me

You don't have to have a PC/laptop running - you can run a Pi from your smartphone. Multi-room capability for a fraction of the price of a Sonos or equivalent.
And Windows computers are usually busy doing a lot of other stuff, taking resources away from audio reproduction, a Pi used as an audio player does just one thing - make music.

Re: Help! Digital Numpty
Volumio is an OS and should run without any other systems needing to be active.
Maybe tomorrow try re-running the disk-installer program to put Volumio on the SD card. Format the card first and do a fresh install run - I had to do that the first time, Then give the Pi a couple of minutes to boot up and attach itself to your network. Don't forget Bonjour.
Patience is a virtue (although a hammer is quicker).

Re: Help! Digital Numpty
On the pi B+ you can add the line "max_usb_current=1" (sans quotes) to the end of the config.txt file located in the boot folder on the pi (Volumio). It should then run a non-powered 2.5" USB HDD without the need for a powered hub. Don't know if this works with other versions of the pi.terrybooth wrote:Basic choices are a USB disk (which will probably need a powered usb hub to run)
I use a free Windows program called WinSCP to access the Volumio OS from my Windows PC. It's a bit like an FTP program with file explorer panes for the local and remote computers.
Bi-amped A80's, P90sa, LS6, AP10h, Phono2/2 PSU's, BMU, SSC, SSP2, Raspberry pi/Durio Sound Dacs, Rega RP6/Dynavector 10x5, Royd RR2.

Re: Help! Digital Numpty
Well. After a little perseverance and a couple of reboots the little fella is singing his little heart out.
Love the radio stations, uk blues especially. Spotify is now fuller sounding but the interface is a little basic. I think there are some tweaks to improve the layout, but don't want to push my luck.
Not feeling like such a numpty now, Dr. you should give it a go !!
Next step, NAS. I have a little USB drive so will try the power command.
Again, thanks for all the support.
