Why do people join hi-fi forums

Unread post by Dr Bunsen Honeydew »

As a counter to the TAS thread why do you leave forums I thought this would be a good one.

My opinion on the ones I observe.

1 to sell something
2 to sell themselves
3 to wave their willy around
4 because they are bored
5 because they are lonely
6 because they are bonkers
7 because they like being bored

or

1 because they want to learn
2 because they want to teach
3 because they want to open their minds
4 because they want to close other peoples minds

or

1 because they get pleasure taking the piss out of idiots
2 because no one else is willing to do it
3 to set rights to wrongs
4 to identify sub humans and shine a light on them

I suppose it depends on which forum and which forum room you post in

For me it was because I was tired of boring my pals about hi-fi when they had no interest. Discovering there were internet forums full of people who are not bored by it was great. I think that is probably the most common reason people who actually participate rather than just read join - to communicate with like-minded souls.

I joined because I was in the market for some new interconnects and after doing my "due diligence" I decided on sound cords, and thought it might be a good idea to join the forum that was home to the manufacturer. Now look at my bloody sig.

I also first joined via a manufacturer's forum; I'd just bought some Exposure amps and wanted advice about interconnects, so I signed up to the Exposure forum. That was very quiet, so I was directed to the Naim forum, and from there I jumped ship to pfm.

(I remember reading some of the Usenet-based audio groups in the mid-90s, but they were US-dominated and had more nuts than a Dundee cake.)

Two bits running if you want to come and hear. Third section scheduled to be finished in July. They are a bit special, they have surprised me as I thought they would be a more controlled Cubix which was what the old Cubix pro was compared with the Cubix, but they are something else. I have never heard anything as natural and unspeaker like in my life.

About a year ago, I felt that it was time to replace my mid-80's NVA amp. To my amazement I discovered that Nene Valley Audio were back in business. Reading the HFS forum to get some info, I thought it would be fun to join and I really enjoy relating my stumbling steps in the approximate direction of audio nirvana.

A6 is probably closest to the truth. Spending your time writing on hi-fi forums is not a rational thing to do with your time, unless A1 applies.

I joined because I wanted to verbally bash the handfull of hifi willy wavers and fukwits like sq696969.
Theres loads more of them, but I chose him as one example.
Because he is right up there on the fukwit leader board.
:obscene-moneypiss: :music-tool:
I thought it would be a doddle (nip in bash em, nip oot again.) but I underestimated the scale of the problem and the hifi depravity actually involved.....
My work here is not yet done :violence-blades:
