Beresford capella. an informed view

Unread post by Progmeister »

Buckle up, here we go! I know that there is a steady stream of Beresford acolytes who extol the virtues of all things Beresford but i have to say that whilst i have always been a little skeptical about off board headphone devices (who ever builds em) i needed one for my main system for reviewing purposes. So i bought a Capella from Mr Beresford as the title of the post would suggest. So tell me, why am i underwhelmed. got an old NAD 3020, put my CDP through it and listened via me Grado headphones and it was much better. If anything it has conformed to me that short signal paths to components is key! They may well be a Beresford Capella for sale very soon. Just saying.

Oh dear, are you going to say that at AoS and TAS, watch out for the flames. At TAS you will be called one of the HFS organised trolls

IMO SB makes good value good product, but for some reason is being inflated to god like status.

Somehow I seem to have acquired no less than five headphone amplifiers, and four sets of headphones. I'm using two of them (the Stax ones) and one I'll probably give away (an original Musical Fidelity X-Can). But why so many? What was I thinking of?

We all do that. I tried a pair of cheap old Sony Headphones bought from ebay to see if I could apply Doc Mods, but Doc Mods don't work with headphones. So I stuck them on the wall outside with a note anyone want them just take them. Gone the following morning. Did the same with a beaten up pair of old JBL speakers (not the good ones, the crap domestic ones from the 80s).

Indeed, i once sold a pair of Yamaha headphones for beer money and they were without doubt the best phones i had ever used. Accurate, lightweight and well made. When i think of the fantstic bits of kit i have either given away or sold for a song over the years i could flay myself with a length of hemp. :(

Just think of all those who's lives you have enriched.

Strange thing about lending out good bits of kit - you never get them back :-?
