Headphone advice
Headphone advice
Hi All
Been a while since my last post but I have been checking in to keep up to date. I usually post in the diy section but I'm looking for some advice. I'm looking at getting a headphone set-up and have been following the various discussions on here. Grado seems favourite but I need closed back as the wife objects to hearing my music when she is watching Homes Under the Hammer/Bargain Hunt / etc , etc. I would like any suggestions which won't break the bank.
I bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro on ebay, spares or repair, and the seller said he thought it was a broken wire but hadn't tried to sort them. In fact one driver is blown and it looks as if someone has attempted a repair. The soldering was much worse than I can do. Buying spares or repair is a bit of a risk so probably the phones are beyond economic repair and I have lost my money. Not a lot of money but still irritating.
Any comments /suggestions welcome.

I've been using some ultrasones for some time. The pro ones have cables that can be changed - replacing the originals with low capacitance mic cable improved them but not night and day. The design of them is unique and you get a more expanded sound stage - more like listening to speakers than closed back phones.

Re: Headphone advice
I found most budget close back headphones lack detail and space, I would say open backs all the way, let your missus suffer if you have to suffer watching those horrible soaps!
I keep recommending these but nobody believes me! If you would like me to send them to you to try I am happy to. They are great for the money.
sorry forgot link

Re: Headphone advice
I have to agree with Ash here. I have tried several pairs of closed back phones, and they were all either boring,Ultrasones KRK Shure etc,or boom boom tizz tizz Beyer DT770's.Had to go back to the Grado's.Must admit i have never heard any £500 plus closed backs .I think avoiding conflict during Bargain Hunt is going to cost you...AshM750. wrote:I found most budget close back headphones lack detail and space, I would say open backs all the way, let your missus suffer if you have to suffer watching those horrible soaps!
PS how is married life going Ash ???
