I'm selling HD650. I could be willing to post to the Netherlands. Posting overseas will come at a slight extra cost.

I know they are very highly-rated, and I have had some Senn's but don't really get off on their sound. Thanks for the thought.

A recent acquisition has me listening to headphones again. For a long time headphones were my primary listening source and I have hardly used them at all since.

My 'comfy chair' is just too far away from the stereo for the reach of my headphone cords and last week in a DIY store I spotted a dirt-cheap 'MP3 extension cable' (Elro) in the audio accessories rack. 3 euro. 2.5m long - give it a try.

It is a reasonably thick cable, nearly the width of the lead on my Grado SR80's. 3.5mm jack and socket. Plugged it into my Hegel DAC and then firstly running a pair of Koss PortaPro's - the results were good, very good in fact. I could hardly hear any difference with or without the extension.
Then I put the Grado's on - again a very good, detailed sound through the extension lead where the top-end is slightly veiled and the sound is a bit rounder. But acceptable for non-ultra-critical listening. The Grado's can be rather piercing if not driven properly and the lack of sharpness helped for a relaxing experience.

The extra length is a godsend and I can now curl up in comfort and immerse myself in the music, so I have just ordered the 'proper' Grado extension lead and am now considering whether I shuold move up to a pair or SR225's.

As an addition to my last post. The cheapo cable does not show up so well with other phones as with the Grado & PortaPro.

When used with an AKG K601 the sound gets muddy and too much definition is lost. And on the closed-back Sony MDR-100AAP that I use for computer work the bass becomes blurry and overblown, sound is generally Yuk!

But as a pointer to improved headphone/amp distance these serve their purpose well and have, modestly, surprised me.

If you can find a pair of SR225's at a reasonable price, you should try them.I borrowed a pair and could not really hear much difference between them and my RS1's.The RS1's do look nicer, but you can't see them when they are on your head..
Most Grado folk seem to think that the SR225's are the sweet spot as it were,i found the 325's just a bit too shrill..and too heavy..

Thanks, Wallace - I had the same feeling about the 325. Physically heavy with a piercing, ultra-detailed top end.

The new 225e appears to have had several construction and driver refinements. Very seriously considering a pair in the near future.
