Headphone advice
Re: Headphone advice
Just got back from Rhodes 2am this morning and found my new phones left on the doorstep. They seem ok but I can't say too much on how good they are as I only have an earphone socket in one of my amps and it is a National Panasonic SU 2300 circa 1975. I have connected this up to my computer and it seems a bit noisy. So will give more of an opinion when I have listened for a bit on a better set-up.

Re: Headphone advice
Grado headphones have been updated to a new 'e' series with, apparently, several improvements in build and production techniques.
http://www.gradolabs.com/the-e-series
Seeing as I'm not planning to go away on holiday I thought I might treat myself to a new SR225e. At the moment I am using an original series SR80,which are great but I would like something a bit more 'refined'. In the past I had an SR325i, although I found that uncomfortably heavy and far too bright (I didn't understand the mysteries of proper amps and cables back then).
My local shop also has a Grado SR125i on sale for 140 euro - but I doubt that that is a major step up from the SR80.
Anybody got any opinions on the new version Grado's or the SR225 ?

Re: Headphone advice
In relation to Headphone advice -
I have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum on ears which are supposed to be a closed back design - tell that to my wife as sound leakage is a problem.
Any advice on a real closed back design that keeps the sound in and would put me in isolation when listening?

Re: Headphone advice
Hmm. I'll have to have a look at these - although I only find the Audio Technica ATH-M50X when I look for current availability.wallace wrote:I have not heard the new Grados yet,but i have to say i have not used my RS1's since i got a pair of used ATH M50's.They have a gradoish presentation plus added comfort and isolation..Never thought i would say it ,but i am thinking of selling some of my Grados

Re: Headphone advice
The M50X's are the newer version of mine, they are the same, but they have a choice of plug in cables whereas mine have fixed cables.

Re: Headphone advice
I found that Beyer DT770's keep the sound in very well, but they are just a bit too bass heavy for me,always a problem with closed back phones IMO.Lordie82360now wrote:Any advice on a real closed back design that keeps the sound in and would put me in isolation when listening?
I think the M50's are the best compromise that i have heard,so far..

Re: Headphone advice
Lordie, I know that the AKG K550 is a very good closed-back headphone. I have a K601 that is at a similar quality level but open. The AKG sound is relaxed, rich and detailed but a little too laid-back for some people's tastes.
