My tuppence worth, the little device linked below works a treat for me, at least with regards streaming from my iPhone... and its cheap as chips too
I've yet to get it to work with my Android tablet, although it is supposed to work with that flavour of device too. Once set up, I stream from TuneIn Radio, BBC iPlayer Radio, Calm Radio, Absolute Radio, SomaFM and Digitally Imported apps... so all bases covered...

Re: digital radio
Probably time to start thinking about the method of transmission (Radio), the content (Music, speach) and the method of encoding (SW, LW,MW, FM, MP1, MP2, MP3 and so on).
Radio, as a method of transmission, has already moved from carrying analogue to digital signals for voice and vision communication and is on the same road for music transmission. The problem with DAB, as I see it, is that it takes up parts of the radio spectrum and is a cut down networking protocol which does less than good old IP (Internet Protocol) can do and less well (e.g. the bit level encoding of DAB is 128k. DAB+ is better but hasn't caught on. Now the radio bandwidth is becoming more and more precious as the demand from the 'Internet of things' increases. So I'd guess that DAB will disappear probably before FM does - it's an inferior and, I'd guess now, more costly technology.

Re: digital radio
If you have either a freeview / freesat / sky reciever do try the radio channels. Have not used them recently but in the past they were of high quality.

Re: digital radio
My introduction to internet radio came a few years ago when I stumbled upon the Grand Ole Opry radio. I spent a couple of happy hours working on something with that as background music, listening to the progress of a road incident in downtown Nashville.orbscure wrote:I've also found this resource very useful...
Point is that you can get just about everything you can get on analogue and digital radio and a whole lot more (Linn Radio, anyone?) on 't't'interweb. (And you can get it using Volumio on a Pi)
