Re: Grado Bass Quality.

Just received the 'High End' ear pads for my SR80's and am trying them out for the first time (recommended by Wallace). The original pads perished about a year ago and I haven't listened to the Grado's in quite a while.

But with the new pads on I notice a couple of differences with what I was accustomed to from the SR80. Firstly the bass is richer and fuller, and the treble is slightly reined-in and less piercing. Overall they have a far more 'refined' sound, I get the impression that they can now be used for longer listening sessions - usually about after an hour they began to irritate me with their too-much-treble character.

Grado owners need to renew the pads occasionally, so bear this in mind as a possible upgrade.

Did anyone try the so called "Flat pads"?
http://www.ttvjaudio.com/TTVJ_Flat_Pads ... 000100.htm

Also, is there any stockist in the EU?

I've got SR-325is and I've read some comments that the aforementioned pads are the best choice for the 325is'...

I use the big 1000 earpads on both my Grado (325i and 125i). Huge improvement to my ears, but the bass does lose some punch (which is fine and sounds more natural to me). And they don't touch your ears at all so much more cumfy.

Seriously impressed by how the SR80's are sounding now, I really hadn't used them in far too long. Notice as well how my hearing has altered by doing the speaker cabinet mods. What I listen for now is how 'musical' the reproduction is - what I previously experienced as 'brightness' is now perceived as 'life' and 'detail'.

The Grado's have replaced the AKG K601 as my main cans (for the time being). The AKG's sound dull and flat in comparison to the sparkling dynamism of the SR80.

AKGs - meh, bland & boring. I've tried the 701 twice, the 2nd time because I couldn't believe my memory of them could be right given how much praise they get.

It was just the same the 2nd time!

I much prefer Grados.

Well i have just spent a happy hour swapping pads on my 325i's.If you like uncomplicated music, these pads are the ones,i put them in a drawer and forgot about them. They do make Diana Krall sound as if she is sitting on your lap,and Ben Webster has his sax resting on your shoulder..Not so sure about using them with classical music thou'. Worth getting a pair,TTVJ is the only person that makes them, but he does ship worldwide,so you will just have to bite the bullet and go with him..
PS They were the original pads fitted by old man grado to his first cans so he must have liked them..
