Old mans ears It would be nice to hear a pair and that would be another off my list._D_S_J_R_ wrote:I heard these, or an earlier version of them, some fifteen or so years ago and didn't like them at all. All sharp-shine and shrill, but then, my ears weren't damaged then and were more sensitive than they are now (I've had a good few ear infections [one of my Diabetes symptoms apparently] since I turned 40 and they've all had an effect). Maybe I'd enjoy the brashness now, but experience tells me I couldn't.

Re: Speakers
They are in different ways the antithesis to the flat earth and the BBC sound, they are more like the favoured LindsayT type sound. PLUS the old versions are nothing like the new ones, where the old ones could be like a barbarian the new versions are pretty well behaved but occasionally they get drunk and have a bit of a party
Matched with Naim they are horrible as they both pull out each other faults even more so which would explain DSJR's dislike.

Re: Speakers
I am adding to the variation on offer to open peoples eyes to the different choices. Klipsch is a big and successful American company, but yet again due to hi-fi retail politics is very difficult to find in the UK. In markets they have been able to promote in they do good business. The Italian hi-fi market is if anything more discerning than the UK one, their serious taste in music definitely so

Re: Speakers
Klipsch are also quite popular in Holland, there are quite a lot on the 2nd hand market over here. What would be a good smaller model of theirs? There's a nice offer on a nearly-new set of RB-35, 500 euro including stands.

Re: Speakers
Klipschorns would be more my type of speakers than the rf-7 ii's. But I can fully understand why most people would prefer the narrower, more modern looking rf-7's (or Kef R500's) in their living rooms.

Re: Speakers
The big Klipschorns I heard (a six month old pair) around twelve years ago were sublime. Driven by a Quad 99 system, they were as good as gold and played all sorts with no 'attitude' at all. The smaller ones I heard elsewhere when 'on the road' were either Bryston integrated or AVI driven, but not Naim, but these other two amp types don't have 'warmth' as a characteristic.
I promise to keep a very open mind on the CURRENT Cube design though. as a well sorted main driver working almost full range can do really good things IMO, the tweeter just 'filling in' where necessary.

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
