AU-101

Unread post by southall-1998 »

Does anyone on here remember the humble Sansui AU-101 integrated?

I have one lying around and will test it tomorrow before selling it on.

When i first got it that was all I used it for, in my bedroom as I was still at home with my parents. Headphones were Pioneer SE30. Turntable was Pioneer PL12AC with Shure M75ED cart. The PL12AC was much better made and sounding than its more successful successor the PL12D.

First proper hi-fi amp I owned (1973/4). Warm and full sound from memory and regretted selling as soon as the buyer walked out the door. Sounded much more powerful than the 15W per channel rating.

If the AU-101 was still being made today. I wonder how much this industry will sell it for?

The 101 was indeed a lovely little thing and (yep, I'm going to say it) better IMO than a lower caste Naim CB amp tonally (when used with straight normal mains - Nait 1 excepted).

The VERY FIRST PL12D's were very well engineered, but severe mass production set in and after a few months and especially with the mk2, the quality dropped off - rattly arm bearings, inferior lid, motor vibration coming through etc. etc. I readily agree on the PL12AC though :)
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
