Musician was the black one and Magician was the chrome. The Magician had selected bearings and was the better one. The design was originally owned by Logic, but Doug Hewitt bought it when they went bust, and then never paid for it himself

Not me Richard, although I did put a sneaky bid in from holiday in France! Thanks for the info on the arm though - I fancied it for the NVA turntable I bought before.

If you fancy borrowing it for a bit, for old times sake, just ask - it's not currently in use, or even got an arm yet!

Just picked up an old Kenwood KA 4010 amp for next to nothing. Built around 1989 and still appears to be working fine.

Good solid build. Heavy transformer. Intrigued to hear how this compares against my Sansui AU217.

My vote would be for the Sansui. Another sleeper to watch out for is early to mid 70's Nikko - TRM1200 is one to look out for.

Initial impression of the Kenwood amp is that it is rather good on imaging and dynamics. Pleasantly musical although lacking that velvety involvement that the Sansui displays. Handy function is 'Direct source' on the tape monitor knob - bypasses all tone controls. Unfortunately the input selector can be a bit crackly, needs some cleaning.

Ideal for reserve/office/bedroom/background use and is rated at 95Wpc so it could be useful for blasting out dance tunes at parties.

Remember in a real world most Japanese watts are a bit hopeful. It is all measured with voltage clipping where as they fail to do the job always on current clipping.
