Headphones
I think a 'new' set of headphones are in order for me. Let's face it, the three sets currently on my desk really aren't enough. There's a Logik gaming set (rarely used these days), a Logitech set for Skype etc, and my Sony MDR-7506s hooked up to the home studio, but nothing for just listening to music. Currently if I want some music late at night, like tonight, I have to play it at a very low volume, which is not ideal. Anyway, I need either some advice, or confirmation of my current plans.
As with most of my purchases I'm looking to maximize quality by buying used, and so far EVERYTHING is telling me to buy a set of Grado SR80i cans, which I can probably get for £70-£90 in good condition. My question is this, has anyone owned said Grados, and then got something better at around the same price point, or are they really as good as the magazines and users here all say?

Re: Headphones
They are very good if a little uncomfortable. I haven't heard anything better for the price.

Re: Headphones
Grado makes good headphones.
I own the older Grado SR80 and find them to be a very enjoyable listen !! Very good for late night music :D

Re: Headphones
I use Alesandro MS1 which are based upon the grado SR80s "only better".
Alessandro Headphones
Now I haven't compared them directly to SR80s, so the "only better" is extremely contingent! I got them because of reviews on headfi and elsewhere. The positives were more musical, the criticisms were less attack, less bass. Plus at $99 they're cheaper than the SR80 (if you don't get hit with import taxes, for some reason I didn't :D ).
I like them very much, tho they do make yer ears warm and get abit uncomfortable after a while (hour or so).
Would like sometime to compare them to the SR80s.
Happy hunting.

Re: Headphones
Neilardo - I did look at the Allesandros while I was 'researching' Grados and came to the conclusion that for the price they were probably tweaked SR60s rather than SR80 equivalents. I might be totally wrong of course, I usually am.

Re: Headphones
The customs charges are probably very expensive when purchasing an Allesandro headphone? If so, I wouldn't bother !!

Re: Headphones
I'll probably be running them from my Bushmaster DAC so I'll tell you what I think. I can't do a comparison as I don't really use the MDR-7506s for listening to pre-recorded music, but I can certainly venture an opinion.southall-1998 wrote:
