These were dirt cheap. And yes the stepped attenuator was a step up. But not as much a two bass drivers wired in series

Hello DQ.
I'm glad to read you are recovering. It sounds like it's been a real struggle.

My right knee feels 50% heavier than my left, my foot, toes and ankle don't move, my control of my right arm is neglible below the elbow and the muscles in the right side of my face are currently fucked. Despite these handicaps recovery is now slow and my physio now me alone.

It seems a perfect time for this thread to return to hifi. As I am on the sick, according to the govt, until at least 2021, I've had plenty of time to piss about - 1 handed- with hifi.

I've got a lenco and a rega arm, more of which later. Firstly, I picked up a phono 1 cheap. It's a bit low on volume so I need to change a 470 resistor for a lower value.

I've opened it up and removed the resistor. I wait for the postie now.
Looking at it, I am firstly going to try and isolate the transformer and ultimately make a fascimilie of a phono 2 with two power supplies.

Come on postie

Would it be easier to transplant the phono board into the pre amp and use the phono 1 as the power stage ?

No I don't think so.

And it ain't an upgrade per se and we're it is, is dependant on what age your phono 1is and I only know mine.

To change from MM to MC, you need to replace FOUR resistors in total. The 47k MM loading is changed to 470 (some MC's don't mind 47k) (two resistors) and more importantly, two 'gain' resistors are replaced (I'll need to look up the values). USUALLY, the Phono 1 or 2 output on stock MC and MM settings are almost CD player level. To save repeated board removal in future, it's a good idea to do as RD asked me to do, solder some 'vero-pins' in the position of these resistors so they can be changed more easily.

You can't turn a Phono 1 into a Phono 2 without adding quite a bit inside and taking out much of the supply components. Not sure how much I should say here (apologies), but anyone who's seen inside knows the changes.
