Going to try modifying the power supply on a cd player.
If you can only find torrodial transformer with 2 outputs, what do you do with the one that isn't being used.

Just insulate the two unused wires.
Or, you could parallel both , same voltage double current. Might as well because more VA could be "better".
If you are not sure tell us the 4 colours and I'll tell you which ones to pair up.

There is another option but depends on what you want to achieve and which part of the cdp you are modding.
Centre tap the transformer and only use two of the diodes in the bridge. OV return can then go straight to the centre tap rather than going through a diode. You only use half the transformer though as the negative side doesn't power anything although can be used to power an led power indicator on the front panel.
Naim did this extensively which may or may not be a good reason to try it although many swear that the 0V return not having to go through a diode makes all the difference.

I swapped the 160v transformer for a 500v in my phono power supply. Can't tell all the differences cause I had to repair it and it took 2 weeks.
But. The sound stage and the bass are much much better. The only change is the size of the transformer.
Sure is curious this hifi.

He certainly did. Richard still a guru from beyond the grave.

Going from 160va to 500va I would have expected the secondary voltage to increase, so that alone might make a "difference".Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 3:28 pm I swapped the 160v transformer for a 500v in my phono power supply. The transformer secondary voltage rating would normally be measured at full load.
