Jammy, my priority in buying hi-fi equipment is to get world class sound for the lowest price. Looks and WAF are pretty much bottom of my priority list. For me the EMT 950 is a thing of beauty because of the deep and expensive engineering behind it. It is more beautiful under the bonnet than my LP12 which looks cheap and nasty in comparison.

I've got far uglier and larger bits of hi-fi kit than the 950.

I'll give it a go at some point, but it'll read more like an autobiography than a user review, the way I see it. Don't know if the membership can stand that :)

This is what I mean by under the the bonnet engineering beauty:

Electronic boards inside an EMT 950

Ahhh, now I see why they are soooo expensive, they are not just the turntable but the whole broadcasting studio!
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

There are some very interesting old broadcast TT, some not that expensive. There is a US one called Rek-o-Kut which despite it horrible name and basic looks has a very good reputation, built like the proverbial brick shite-house.

This one is *the* bargain if you can find one http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/reko_rondi ... _34l3.html ignore the new ones.

Hmm, I'm afraid, while I won't choose form OVER function, my equipment must also be beautiful, (or at the very least attractive).
