Well what my ears tell my brain is a superb sound.
Is,I suspect completly different to what someone else's ears tell their brain.

I like my systems sound - They might think it's crap.
They i assume like their systems sound - I might think it's crap.

The same would apply to choice of music.

I like my choice of music - They might think it''s crap.
They i assume like their choice of music - i might think it's crap.

The same would apply to everything i guess - Truth is we are all different, and amen to that.

Synergy is not inheretant. :violin:

  what ever you want.

But my point is you deal in absolutes, for you it brilliant so for others it must be crap. Music is a universal truth otherwise it wouldn't have emerged in all cultures, the individuality is only on the fringes.

Anyway I was being pretentious. Must be because I am watching Star Wars

EDIT :- BTW what is "inheretant".

Just playing around with the bits I have at home, I don't think synergy is the most important aspect to building a good sounding hi-fi system.

Either that, or synergy is a lot easier to find than you might think - if you've got the right building blocks.

In other words get a set of good building blocks: 3 good but different sources, 3 good but different amps, 3 good but different speakers. Chuck them together in any of the 27 possible different combinations and you will get a good sounding system with any of them. Also - any major sonic shortcomings or compromises in any particular individual component will be audible in any combination that you put it in.

If one or more of your building blocks is rotten, then no amount of synergy will make your system sound genuinely good.

So for me the priority is: world class components first, synergy second.

I still like the logic of "GIGO" - does "source first" have a place here?

It makes far more sense than speakers first. The problem was that it was a marketing idea by Linn that the brainwashed sheep took too seriously and literally. It created ridiculously miss balanced systems just so a LP12 could be justified. I think it is just common sense that you have to starts somewhere, so get *something* and then start learning and enjoying the process.
