Marantz Model 1040.
Fancied trying my Marantz Model 1040 today. Had this amp for almost 2 years and still sounding good. This amp is from the 70s and still working!
Anyone else on here still owns an old school Marantz

Re: Marantz Model 1040.
I bought a Marantz amp in the late 70's,can't remember the model .I really loved it the only trouble was the guy i bought it off had never used plugs at the back,he always just put in the bare wires with a couple of matchsticks. It had a sticky end,but sounded very good whilst it lasted...
Enjoy..
Enjoy..

Hi, Looks like the sort of kit you could drop down the stairs ,without damaging it.It will probably out live the radio service.

That is the Japanese skill - perceived strength and value. It looks strong, but it is mostly image. Though being steel it will survive a drop far better than acrylic.

Honestly - take it apart, look at how everything is fitted on thin steel plate chassis mostly mounted with plastic lugs.
The Japanese are masters at making thing look "perceived", not reality. Big chunky front plate, big chunky knobs - look behind them at the cheap carbon track pots. Production engineering is all about the minimum you can get away with.
