Shunt it. Will give you most of the benefits of fitting a stepper for the cost of some resistors.

I measured before ordering. You can find the dimensions of the SA and the resistors on the glasshouse page. In my AP70 it fitted comfortable without moving anything. Maybe it's because it has a headphone socket and so was build in a way to suit it.
