New A40s
Some thoughts on smaller power amps.
Very happy with A20, especially as part of the starter kit
Not so happy about dropping A30 and the intro of A20x. A20x is good but the old A30 was better. My problem with the A30/40 is the case, it is too complicated and expensive. I came about because I needed that type of case design for the bigger amps to get the heatsinking I needed, and I did the same to the 30/40 as an after thought even though they didn't need it. It means in my opinion the 30/40 are much more expensive than need be. So I am going back to the old case design (as in A20) but increasing the size a bit to give more transformer clearance so I can use the same case for the miniBMU. I have also found a way to increase the internal heatsinking in the case.
Sooo - I propose
A20 - no change
A20x - dropped - good upgrade on A20 just not as good as A30.
A30 - reintroduced in new case - price £350
A40 monoblocks - changed to new case - price drop from £600 to £500 (pair).
Comments.

Re: New A40s
The new A40s seem to be a good development, and the price is great.
A30 also look a bargain.

Re: New A40s
That is what I am about. I want to make things cheaper (better value). If I have the choice of one customer for £1000 profit and wait for him, with bullshit bait on the hook, or ten customers for the £1000 who find me, I will go for the ten, that is why the trade hates me.

Re: New A40s
I was about to place an order for new casework of the old style, and I thought this is wrong, it is not needed and building the case is complicated which I don't mind with the 60 - 70 and 80.
By the way I am also thinking about A100's using BBPSU case, but then I am getting into too many products again - I must resist, I must resist.

Re: New A40s
The problem for the competition is the price of pretty basic integrateds has become daft since the 90's when something really good could be bought for under £500. Typical audiophile brands tend to start nearer £2K with only Rega producing something relatively affordable. Otherwise at Doc prices it's budget Yamaha or Onkyo from Superfi or Richer. A pair of monoblocks for the price of Rega's cheapest integrated (or 4 TAS approved fuses) sounds a really good deal.

Re: New A40s
I have to say “well done” for the changes to the range and especially for dropping the price of the A40. I wonder if other manufacturers would have claimed that the new case is an improvement and consequently increased the price........
