Dropping the price on the A40's sounds like a great idea, I am sure many will be tempted. I liked the look of the previous cases but I can see the logic of the change and people will go for it.

Genuine question but what is the benefit of using a mono block? Reason I ask is that I use an old A60 (metal case, 1997 vintage) with Cubettes and am interested in how that compares to new A40s? I like the idea of new acrylic amps and would be interested but is it just a sideways move?

Can't be definite, my instinct would be mostly sideways.

Lateral thinking, Doc. Love it!

Seriously - as an A40 owner I find this development to be a brilliant move, in keeping with NVA's 'more-sound-for-your-pound' philosophy and bringing the idea of audiophile monoblock amps into an even more attractive price category.

Great news Doc.

Absolutely nothing wrong with my diminutive A40's in the A20 case, they just get slightly warm after many hours of listening. Happy bunny here!

These will have bigger case, 1cm extra height and 0.5cm extra depth to accommodate larger transformer (same as mk2 transformer, mk1 as you have is smaller) and more plate heatsink.

That's as maybe Doc, but mine are sweet enough for me and fit into the available space I have, making fine music to boot

I would not recommending bothering to change. They are for more difficult loads or more / greater volume (so called loudness) or greater bass extension, it is all a balancing act. If the A20 is enough then why bother with more unless you discover it is worth it. Same from A20 to your mono versions of them, same as to new A40s, same as............ etc.......

BUT ask any A80s or Statement amp owners if they would trade back to A20 or even A40 and they would titter a little. You don't know what you have got until you have got it.
