HiFi Review 1987
HiFi Review 1987
Look what I found in an old magazine I'd not thrown out....
Apologies for the poor quality but I had to use my phone to take the pictures and then reduce the size right down to post them...

Re: HiFi Review 1987
I LOVED my ES14 speakers and along with other local dealers, played a tiny part in their final gestation - main driver run wide open with a cap on the tweeter, later ones after the pair pictured optimised for close-to-wall mounting where the pair shown should be pulled out a little. I went the similarly sized ATC 20 route (very power hungry indeed) and should have kept the Epos a bit longer...
As an aside and to any out there new to NVA - Over the decades and long before I owned and used NVA products, they NEVER had bad reviews. Even measurement-based tests on the older stuff weren't bad at all, although these amps were never designed for perfect specs (the music tends to disappear if you're not careful). Peeps on forums who owned NVA always spoke highly of the products even though many forum people are serial box swappers...

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Re: HiFi Review 1987
I would say that they chose appropriate speakers for this review system. Not sure about the front end though
This included an NVA preamp with PSU - must have been before the passives came along.
Well found scotty.

Re: HiFi Review 1987
The P50 at this time was passive but with an active phono board that the PSU was needed for. There was also a power output (DIN socket) on the power amp for the same purpose.
I remember this review. Having got my NVA amp the year before. My P50 has a Tape Monitor switch on the front which was removed in later versions (one component less).

Re: HiFi Review 1987
Okay so Photobucket doesn't seem to work - let's try Imgur ...
This was the review that got me looking at an NVA amp in 1985 or so.
The P50/A40 pictured here is a very early model with Tape Monitor switch on the Pre and a front-mounted red LED power-switch on the A40. Also the model numbers are on the faceplate.
Doc seems to have had the same outspoken views then as he does now ..

Re: HiFi Review 1987
The OP system is let down by its source which takes up a huge percentage of the budget. His comments about the source are so typical of the time, under the spell of the Glasgow mafia.

Re: HiFi Review 1987
I burned all my 80's Hi-Fi mags. Kept the 60's/early 70's mags cos they were free.
