Get a Flatcap 2 for the CD5 as part of the system revamp. I speak from personal knowledge and experience here...

Funny you should say that about the flatcap2. I was looking at picking one up I am told it can make a huge difference.

It does in this instance... and in the areas where NVA excels too, so hopefully a double benefit for you

If you are in to modding (many are not) the CD5 can be made into a very fine cdp. The Acoustica site explains much of how to hot rod a CD5which is basically the same as a 3.5.

My CD3.5 now has four sepaŕate psu's, new clock, fancy regs etc etc. It blows me away everyday.

You cant go wrong buying NVA, enjoy.

I put an old olive hicap on my CD5 and it did make life worth living,a vast difference, not sure an empty box (flatcap) can do a lot, sorry, still worth a try for the money i guess. Then i inherited a TT and sold the CDP and bought some more records...ha

Yes the flatcap is a box full of salisbury air with added pixie dust and not much else. The regulator contained within (and the hicap and supercap) are what you would describe as "agricultural" and easily bettered.

I would advise a power supply from Avondale Audio (containing the highly regarded TPR4 regulator) to go on your CD5. I think there is one for less than £400 and to be honest it will wipe the floor with an old flatcap or hicap for that matter.

Lurcher knows more about power supplies than most. He will do a good one. In fact I think does one.

Avondale don't seem to make their own complete PSU's they do supply all the components for diy. I wouldn't go down that road though. There are Teddy Pardo suppliesand I think another called Sonic Bliss. Anyway my NVA gear is first on the list.
