Cube in a Cube?

Unread post by Principia »

Hello All, my first posting on the forum after joining today.

To maintain domestic harmony I am going to have to move my hifi to another room and sell the Quad 2905's. Trouble is that the likely rooms are almost cube like in size, hence the thread title. Room sizes are 11 x 11 x 9 or possibly 9 x9 x8 which conventional wisdom suggests are not promising as far as room acoustics are concerned. Having done some searching on the forum phrases like the Cubes work with the room not against it keep cropping up. I would be grateful for any users with experience of using Cubes in such small unpromising rooms.

Thanks in advance

Anybody who has heard my workroom set up has heard them in a far worse room that that. From Cubette to Cubix Pro they all work.

The only speakers that have worked properly in my room. :happy-jumpeveryone:
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

As you can see my 'music room' is not large. But the NVA system there - with Cubes - works extraordinarily well and gives an impression that a far larger installation is active in a much bigger space.

I've heard various Cube variants in various different rooms. Including three different rooms in my house, and, the character of the sound I've heard is very consistent. For me, the main thing is whether you like this character or not. Obviously, I do.

And if you do try them, you must follow the Doc's advice
Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:Follow the positioning rules they will not be optimum until you do. Back as near to the wall as you can, flat on. Move out in *small* increments until the bass drops in just right in the mix. Then toe in until you get the depth and size of image you want.
