Well the BMU made a difference to my system (report somewhere in the archives) so I don't see it as a bad place to start.

My advice is once you get your system running well then a BMU is essential as the next door opener for progressing the system, as the musical window is that much cleaner for hearing differences to help upgrade choices. As well of course as improving the system in its own right.
