Decent (but cheap) speakers to complement AP20

Unread post by Ithilstone »

Even though I have no space and no budget I just cannot help wondering...
Is it possible to find used, small (computer desk size) speakers for around 50 quid to complement AP20?
Or there is no point and everything within that price range will be piece of $hit???

and btw Doc it is your fault ;] until my brief session with your set up I didn't really miss listening to music through speakers...

Have a look to see if the Q Acoustics 2010i will fit, a little larger than computer desktop speakers but very good. Never heard them on NVA amps but they performed briliantly on other amps.

Doc led me through a process of modifying a pair of Mision 760's a while back. I have them as computer desktop speakers and they sound magnificent. Cost about 50 quid including mods. See thread 'Nearfield Speakers' in General Audio.

If you can stretch it to £80 I have a pair of repaired / modded Royd Envoys I wanted a hundred for but if you collect you can have the for £80. Remember you need NVA speaker cable as well.

If you can stretch to that then buy any small JPWs on ebay, best really small cheap speaker available if you can't go to Royds.

Doc that why I was budgeting 50 for speakers to get your cable - 80 plus cable for now is a bit too much
unless I will sell Play it by ear headphone amp - Gumtree is not helping I might have to go eBay with it
it is $499 but from New Zealand I was hoping to get 200-250 GBP for it...
Then I might get Royds if you still have them

Actually I just realised I am not using my JPW ML510s anymore, you can have them for £30 collected. They were my old test speakers back when I was in Epping. Shane has a pair they are good.

If you can see them amoungst the clutter   here is a pic.

I have a pair of JPW Mini Monitor Speakers. They are a bit tatty, but look fairly presentable.

They have steel plates inside. Work was done by Wallace from this parish.

I'd be looking at getting £55, posted.

Doc I did some reading and I got really interested in those Royd Envoys - If you OK waiting couple of weeks
BTW minimum which of your cables would make sense with those speakers and AP20? I would need 1-1.5m
and need to know how much I need to budget for it
southall-1998 Thanx but Royds are too tempting ;]

They are no longer Royd Envoys. I got them with a burnt out bass driver, and as drivers are no longer available had to mod them to use my bass drivers.

LS1 will be fine.
