Sometimes here during a storm the power cuts out.

Then I unplug all sensitive electronics in case of a surge when the mains comes back on.

One prerequisite of these protective strategies is that one is actually in the house when a storm is expected or there is a power cut. That is a game I'm not playing, I can't be in all the time.
