Unread post by 29mile »

Just taken apart my £5 Chinese DAC by removing 2 screws !

What's the verdict ?
Interested to learn what can be done power supply wise.

The answer was already given by Richard. Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/122732460380.
Works and sounds fine.

Sorry I already have one of those. My question was really to see if there was anyway to use a super BBPSU for example and bypass the socket. The plan is to use the DAC with a Raspberry Pi / Digi Pro + as a music server using 2 x 300va transformers in a separate PSU. .

Trace the circuit and see where the power trace goes.

Looks like it's an integrated dac on a chip with receiver, dac and clock and outputs all on one part. One psu rail, no decoupling, precious little regulation, waste of time.

Not what Richard thought. He would have used it in a potential NVA Dac with seriously big transformer. Anyway will have a go with a 300vA one with good regulator and see how good it can become.

Mine is nothing like the one above and has more separate chips on the little board and both sides too, despite looking similar externally. You may just find a half decent wallwart plus an inline Sbooster may be enough.
