12” Driver types?

Unread post by Latteman »

Hi, I have bought several used 12” & 10” drivers over the last year for diy projects, from older manufacturers- Richard Allan & Fane- and noted a difference in the depth of the cones which I believe is either ‘long or short’ throw.
I currently use a pair of Fane Pop50 in my build. Not being able to get a lot of info from searching I ask here
-what’s the musical difference? Is there one?
-is there a preference for hifi over PA
-what are the doc modded 12” type
Thanks
