(Sorry this has turned into a ramble)

I decided to change the drivers in my diy cubes, I was not getting sufficient ‘volume’ and blamed the Royd drivers- especially on vinyl playback, I hand to drivethe power amps harder than digital inputs, volume was lacking, upping the p50 volume kind of expanded the sound not Giving grunt- it wasn’t unpleasant but just lacked balls when needed.
Low level and moderate listening was fine.
The linn drivers do appear to give more volume sensitivity but my concern is in my design attempt to keep the operation reversible -I added a top baffle to the original baffle / top of the cube whose aperature is considerably less- will this restrict anything ie sound,
Currently listening I’m not dissatisfied but I must admit although the volume is improved i was expecting fuller bass. Linn drivers are undoped.
Is this an Nva thing- volume is addded differently?
again, nothing wrong with the sound- am I having difficulty letting go of previous manufacturers approach?
I’m a bit confused to what I’ve done- was this the wrong approach- should I move up the amp ladder?

NVA drivers and cabinets i.e. cubes or cubettes. Amps are fine.

I presume it is a sealed box?
A sealed box needs to have sufficent air volume inside it to produce lower bass. A bigger driver doesnt necessarily produce deeper bass and will start to roll off around resonant frequency of the driver
It may be that the linn driver has a higher resonant frequency along with a higher sensitivity

In my experience box size has nothing to do with music volume. There are suggested cabinet volumes for drivers and those should be adhered to. I found docs 12" doped driver gave too much bass at a certain frequency in an enclosure that was obviously to small. Increasing the box volume tamed it . Sealed cabinets can give the impression of less bass until you get used to the tightness of it. Get the driver near a boundary (ie wall) may help. My big bass driver is close to the floor which helps (read Allison papers for the theory).

As with all DIY there are things that work that the work has already been done and you can follow, but go off on your own tangent and you are largely on your own and taking chances that may or may not work. This can be fun or frustration.

I think frustration comes when you try a lot of things that dont work . It makes it all worth it though when something does work.

Been listening for a bit now and can agree the linn drivers suck- they have transferred the irritating sound when I used them ‘crossover less’ in the helix, I always preferred the Royd Minstrels but felt they lacked control at higher volume and complex music but in the cube design they are great.
The diy cube has an internal volume of approx 12l- which size drivers from the doc mid rangedo you suggest I use/order. Ta
