I can't reliably drill metal despite having a drill stand boxed and never used :(
The step drill is your friend for front panel work ;)

Not stopping you. It's not set in stone yet.
Aluminium extruded enclosure would be the same as those that Naim use, could even make it a "chrome bumper" one with a crackle black finish.
On second thoughts, better not. Richard's got my address. He'd send the boys round. :o

I'm following this thread with interest. :)

I was thinking of trying solid state again. Maplins used to sell a mosfet module many moons ago, and I noticed something very similar on Ebay the other day.

Don't know if they are "hi-fi" though. Anyone ever tried them ?

Never tried them.
Never soldered a transistor in my entire life.

Rest of the bits for the project are now ordered, so I ought to be underway by the end of the week.

Bits have arrived. Below is the proposed layout, which ensures that most of the wires will be kept as short as possible.

Look like I was spot-on with the box dimensions I worked out. The box itself is very well finished.

Amp can be built onto the eighth-inch thick bottom plate and then the box built up around it. Should make construction nice and easy.

I also have an alternative layout that puts the transformer and power supply at the front and the boards at the rear. I may use that instead, but the general idea is the same.

I forgot to add that legally at anytime in the future these are disposed of or passed on they cannot be called NVA amplifiers legally. You have to give them your own name and not emphasise the nva connection. I do this for you two, not for future of the boxes.

Steve. Somehow, if you can lay the caps and bridge rectifiers out as per NVA you might find it easier and more logical to solder up and wire the rails..

I've never used one transformer with pos and neg wired secondary's to use two bridges and cap banks, so can't advise on wiring. Even better with two transformers and they're not silly money ;)
