Wise old man once said
The bigger the transformer (assuming good quality) the less smoothing capacitors you will need
The less you need the better quality you can get at the same price...

It look to me you just proved him right

I miss Him

5 minutes with pen and paper will prove that wrong though. A larger transformer will allow the caps to charge up faster on the charging parts of the rectified sine wave, but the cap size and the load only will control how low the cap discharges on the other part of the cycle.

I'm sure Nick (Lurcher 300b) is fully conversant with both.

His audio designs speak for themselves.

There's a lot of respect for Nick, here...you can safely ease off the cheerleading.

how I understand it:
Quoted: the less smoothing capacitors you will need
First it applies only to Docs design where main difference between amps is size of transformer and size of heat-sink
also the word need suggest minimum to operate correctly
and there is a difference between minimum and optimum
that's all on top of cost effectiveness that applied to all NVA
Nothing to see here...

Maybe, or maybe its the difference between hyperbole and reality. But anyway, its not something I really care about that strongly. Assume I never made the post.

That's funny you say you wish you never made the post , then augment the contents of the post with your hyperbole comment.

Make up your mind and act accordingly.

No I didn't, I said you should assume I didn't make the post, two different things.
