Eminently sensible in my view. But there's more than one way to skin a cat.

No there aren't, that is to do it properly. There are people skinning cats in stupid ways. People can do it but doesn't make it sensible.

Therein lies the way to ruin. To quote an archbishop (name's gone) "If man was to wait until things could be done perfectly, then nothing would get done at all."

You may sign on to a particular idea and defend it to the end, but that doesn't make it the only, or even the correct way.

These type of designs, that work with the room, really do deserve to be heard by a much wider audience.

Too much prejudice and vested interests I am afraid. The speaker market has become what the speaker looks like. Basically mink coat and no knickers.

Been trying out the 12" drivers I got off the Doc, for the bass cabinets of these larger semi-omnis.
Image
Have lashed up a basic 12dB/octave, 180Hz low-pass filter, consisting of a big power inductor and large motor run cap, just to get an auditory feel for the driver.
Out of any cab, we have a nice even response from it, so it is looking like I have a decent chance of getting a proper degree
of low bass reinforcement from this driver, providing of course I design the bass box properly.

I also have a couple of 10" high Q paper drivers to compare with, so plenty of fun to be had.

Playing music (WHAT?) rather than tones, into the 12dB, filtered bass driver, it looks as if I'll only need the filter on the bass. The all important mid driver, with its black/white tack ring damper, can be left wide open, and just a simple cap provided on the tweeter.

Here's the drawing, to scale of the new design. Box volumes worked out and reduction in cab volume by the bracing
inside the bass box have been accounted for:

All dimensions are internal. Speaker cables enter at the bottom of the bass box and the two cabs will be connected by an umbilical with Neutrik connectors. Both boxes are infinite baffle types.
