Priced up the drivers to make my speakers into big bastard cube types (3 x 12" bass, 3 x 5" mid, 3 x visaton tweeters per speaker).

As i already have 2 x 12 ", 1 x 5", 1 x tweeter (per speaker) i will need 1 pair of 12 inchers, 2 pairs of 5 inchers and two pairs of tweeters.

Comes to a grand total of £429  Added to the drive units i already have (£283) makes £712. :o :o :o On top of that is the Russian paper in oil caps which aren't cheap and i need one more pair of them. And i will need to buy cabinet material as well (baltic birch).

Not a cheap project by any means.

I'm not sure doping and the absence of a xover means that expensive drivers are worth the money.
I'll await your observations with interest.

Doc mod drivers aren't expensive and the doc was of the opinion expensive drivers were a rip off

That price is using the exact same drivers the doc used except i think he changed to some cheaper tweeters that he doped. Its the visaton tweeters that bump the cost up. £70 a pop.

£712 is steep.

Doc priced each of his big bastard cubes at £3K. I am building the equivalent of 3 of these stacked one on top of the other. So it would have been £9K. £712 for drivers doesn't seem so bad when you compare it to that.

I will have 3 pairs of speaker cables per channel when these speakers are built. I don't want to be looking at all these cables so thinking of ways to disguise them.

Latest idea is to run them under the floor but that is not without it's own problems. Don't want to introduce any more breaks in the chain by adding sockets in the floor and all that bollocks. The safety police may even mention fire regulations. Farmers chuck stuff on fires when they happen
