It is not business I rely on, it is largely part of the gift, I cover my costs and labour, so don't worry.

My reasoning is to get more speakers that actually show the qualities of amplifiers and not sitting on them and suppressing the music the way most of what we have to put up with does.

Modern speakers are bling crap largely, and sold with layers of bullshit all over them - Harbeth is a classic case. Just look at their ludicrous denial that amplifiers can sound different. The only important thing being the speaker, that is how they are getting away with it as decent amps will show them up for what they are. The IMPORTANT thing is speakers that show how good good amplifiers are, and the IMPORTANT thing is amplifiers that show how good the source components are, and the IMPORTANT thing is source components that show how good the music is.......

Well the other day i got some chipboard flying with my planer and belt sander. Decided to take the bumpers back to baffle level. Lots still to do but i should be able to make a decent job of it. Then refinish the whole front and make new grilles.

Drivers, stuffing and everything else has been removed. I will get some pictures up next week hopefully. The 12" driver hole allows some big pieces of steel to fit through.

Right, I have planed and sanded the bumpers (don't know what else to call them) right back to the baffle. Taken 16mm of the finest chipboard off  and also sanded the front of the baffle back to wood. The grilles have nothing to contain them now so will have to make some new ones that fully cover the front of the speakers. Old ones were grotty any way (stained).

Using the baffle as a guide for sanding I have made a really good job of it with perfectly straight edges and no chipped veneer.

The baffle is going to need some work however to accommodate the 12" bass, 5" mid and visaton tweeter. The tweeter cut out will have to be moved upwards and the mid cut out enlarged upwards to fit the new mid in. The result will be a bit of a mess with cut outs merging into one another.

I may just make a whole new front baffle to go over the top of the current one - 19mm ply maybe ? This is turning out to be more work than I had hoped but hey ho.
